The Maha Kumbh witnessed an inspiring confluence of service and social harmony in Prayagraj on Basant Panchami on Monday.
The Social Welfare Department’s pandal along the banks of the Sangam, set up in partnership with the National Medicos Organisation and ALIMCO, aids the underprivileged at the Maha Kumbh. Shravan Kumbh supports thousands, offering examination and assistance to those with hearing impairments, with beneficiaries steadily rising.
For the first time in Maha Kumbh, the Uttar Pradesh government has set up a special camp for the elderly and hearing-impaired, providing free tests and assistive devices through the Social Welfare Department.
This noble initiative at the Maha Kumbh stands as a symbol of service and inclusion, striving to bring the most marginalised into the mainstream. Under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s guidance, a 100-bed ashram has been established in the Maha Kumbh Mela area for senior citizens from state-run old-age homes.
Special arrangements have been made for their stay, ensuring they can participate in the Sangam snan and religious festivities of the Maha Kumbh Mela.
So far, over 500 senior citizens from various districts, including Mirzapur, Gonda, Siddharthnagar, Bhadohi, Kaushambi, Hardoi, Sitapur and Lucknow, have taken part in the holy event, earning virtue.
By February 26, the government plans to facilitate amrit snan for 2,000 elderly devotees from state-run old-age homes. More than a religious event, Maha Kumbh 2025 is emerging as a symbol of inclusivity and empowerment.
