Latehar police has given a severe jolt to the SJMM who was a kind of pain in the neck of the police in Latehar district.
Latehar police nabbed and jailed a 50 year old naxal supremo of the banned splinter group of naxal Sangharsh Jan Mukti Morcha (SJMM)Rajesh Singh Kherwar alias Shaitan alias Topi who was evading arrest for 12 long years.
Latehar SP Kumar Gaurav said, " Supremo of SJMM Rajesh Singh Kherwar alias Shaitan alias Topi was arrested on Sunday who was remanded to judicial custody today Monday under sections of 308 (2) and 308 (5) of the BNS and section of the Arms act."
This 'Shaitan' has 13 cases against him out of which 2 cases fall in Gumla district. Latehar district's Chandwa and Balumath police stations have his remaining 11 cases.
Gaurav further said"This naxal supremo did carry a reward of 2L of rupees." However sources said the state government withdrew this reward on him in 2016.
Rajesh Singh Kherwar was not only operative in Latehar district but also in Gumla district.Police have recovered one desi revolver of 9 mm calibre, 2 rounds of fire and cell phone from him.
Gaurav added "He is not only notorious but he knows the art of evasion. He evaded his arrest for thirteen long years till our police finally got him."
On being asked if for his evasion for over a decade or so,was his property ever seized under the law to which Gaurav said"Warrant of seizures of property was executed."
"This naxal supremo used whatsapp call. He used to threaten his target through voice call and video call" reiterated Gaurav.
Latehar police recovered his same cell phone with which he used to make voice calls and video calls to frighten his target all for levy.
Sources said this naxal supremo was after a contractor of TTIPL engaged in laying the third railway lines here.
The contractor Vivek Tiwary was threatened on January 27. Rajesh Singh Kherwar flaunted his weapon through the video call ostensibly to chill Tiwary for levy.
Tiwary showing courage and trust in Latehar police and its chief Kumar Gaurav lodged an FIR against Rajesh Singh Kherwar with the Latehar police station on January 29.Sources said the Latehar police swung into action and got him on February 2.
Sources said some ten years ago such a courage to lodge FIR against the naxal was out of question for fear of life.
But now things have changed like this where Tiwary mustered all the courage and stood against the naxal supremo Rajesh Singh Kherwar. Latehar police have come closer to public said sources.
