Skydiving Festival takes off, Kiriburu to be developed as adventure sports destination

The much-awaited Skydiving Festival 2025 was inaugurated with great enthusiasm at Sonari Airport, under the aegis of Jharkhand Tourism. The event was flagged off by  Sudivya Kumar, Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism, Sports, and Youth Affairs, marking a significant leap towards promoting adventure sports and tourism in the state. 

During the inauguration, the Minister expressed the state government’s commitment to exploring new avenues in adventure sports and tourism. He highlighted that Jharkhand, known for its rich mineral wealth, also boasts of immense natural beauty, biodiversity, and a vibrant religious-cultural-historical heritage, making it an ideal destination for adventure sports. 

He said, “The state government is dedicated to promoting adventure tourism by organizing events like the Skydiving Festival in Jamshedpur, adhering strictly to the guidelines and safety standards set by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).” He further emphasized that the initiative aims not only to boost tourism but also to provide employment opportunities to local youth and position Jharkhand as a prominent adventure tourism hub. 

The minister revealed the state’s vision of promoting mining tourism, motor/paragliding, rock climbing, and other adventure sports in Kiriburu. He emphasized, “By identifying new spots with untapped potential, Jharkhand will witness a surge in religious tourism, natural tourism, and adventure sports, thereby enhancing state revenue and attracting new investments.” 

Tourism Secretary  Manoj Kumar announced that the Skydiving Festival would be held for seven days, from February 16 to 23, 2025, at Sonari Airport. He added that participants could join this adrenaline-pumping experience through online booking, ensuring a seamless and organized event. 

Expressing his joy and pride, Deputy Commissioner  Ananya Mittal remarked, “Organizing Skydiving Festival 2025 in Jamshedpur is a matter of pride for the district. The enthusiasm among people is palpable, and the event is expected to attract adventure seekers from across the country.” 

The festival is anticipated to provide a significant boost to the local economy by attracting tourists, adventure enthusiasts, and sports lovers. Local businesses, including hotels, restaurants, and transport services, are expected to benefit from the influx of tourists. Additionally, the event is creating job opportunities for the local youth in hospitality, guiding, and event management. 

 To ensure safety and a thrilling experience, the event is being conducted in strict compliance with the DGCA guidelines and safety standards. Certified professionals are supervising the dives, and all necessary safety measures, including high-quality gear and medical facilities, are in place. 

The inauguration witnessed the presence of several prominent dignitaries, including: Tourism Director  Anjali Yadav, Deputy Commissioner  Ananya Mittal, Senior Superintendent of Police  Kaushal Kishore, ADM Law and Order  Aniket Sachan, Sub-Divisional Officer  Shatabdi Majumdar, City SP  Kumar Shivshish and other senior officers and local leaders. 

The festival witnessed an overwhelming response from the public, with adventure enthusiasts eagerly lining up to experience the thrill of skydiving. Social media buzzed with excitement as participants shared their experiences, making #SkyDivingFestival2025 a trending hashtag. 

“ The Skydiving Festival 2025 is a testament to the Jharkhand Government’s dedication to promoting adventure tourism. By successfully organizing this event, Jharkhand is paving the way to become a preferred destination for thrill-seekers. The initiative aligns with the state’s vision to diversify its tourism portfolio and contribute to economic growth,” said an official.
