In a high-level review meeting chaired by East Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner Ananya Mittal, serious concern was raised over the growing encroachments on land leased to Tata Steel. The meeting, held at the District Collectorate, focused on the progress of lease renewal and measures to curb illegal occupation on both government and leased land.
Mittal issued firm directives for launching a joint and coordinated anti-encroachment drive. Stressing the zero-tolerance approach of the administration, he stated, “Encroachment in any form—whether on government land or on Tata leasehold—will not be tolerated and will be dealt with strictly as per law.” He called for prompt legal action wherever necessary and urged all departments to work in close coordination.
During the meeting, Mittal conducted a detailed review of the steps taken so far in the Tata lease renewal process. He instructed officials and Tata Steel representatives to fast-track the work while ensuring full compliance with existing legal norms and land-use policies.
Special focus was given to pending cases under the Jharkhand Public Land Encroachment (JPLE) Act. To accelerate hearings and decisions, the Deputy Commissioner directed the Jamshedpur Zonal Officer to dedicate two days each week exclusively for JPLE case proceedings.
Looking ahead, Mittal called for preventive action to avoid future encroachments. He recommended immediate fencing of large vacant land parcels within the leasehold area that are susceptible to land mafia activity. He also emphasized the need to put such land to productive use to deter illegal occupations and improve overall land management.
The meeting was attended by several senior officials, including Dhalbhum SDO Shatabdi Mazumdar, City SP Kumar Sivashish, Additional Deputy Commissioner Bhagirath Prasad, JNAC Deputy Municipal Commissioner Krishna Kumar, LRDC Gautam Kumar, and Jamshedpur Circle Officer Manoj Kumar. Representatives from Tata Steel were also present and shared updates on the status of lease renewal and current encroachment issues.
The meeting concluded with a call for ongoing collaboration between Tata Steel and the district administration to ensure land issues are addressed efficiently and in line with public interest and regional development priorities.
Expressing serious concern over the rising number of encroachments on leased land, the Deputy Commissioner issued strict directives for launching a joint and coordinated anti-encroachment drive. He made it clear that any form of illegal occupation—whether on government land or land leased to Tata Steel—would not be tolerated. "Encroachment in any form is unacceptable and will be dealt with firmly under the law," stated Mittal, calling for immediate legal action where necessary.
