In a significant development, Tatanagar Railway Station, a key stop on the Howrah-Mumbai trunk route under the Chakradharpur Division of South Eastern Railway, has received the prestigious ‘Eat Right Certification’. This recognition underscores the station’s commitment to maintaining high standards of food safety and hygiene.
A two-member team from Chennai recently visited Tatanagar to evaluate its catering services. The inspection involved a detailed review of the station's restaurants and stalls, ensuring strict adherence to food safety norms. The team also assessed the Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) percentage of railway tap water, a critical parameter for water quality and safety.
The ‘Eat Right’ initiative primarily focuses on: Cleanliness and hygiene at food stalls. Special registration requirements for food vendors. Safety measures for the storage and handling of catering items.
The initiative has been beneficial for both passengers and food vendors. By adhering to stringent safety and hygiene standards, vendors enhance their credibility and attract more customers, leading to an overall improvement in business performance. This not only promotes healthier food consumption but also boosts passenger satisfaction.
Tatanagar's certification is a significant milestone, setting an example for other railway stations to follow. It reflects the collaborative efforts of the FSSAI and the Indian Railways to prioritize passenger health and safety.
“ This achievement is expected to inspire other stations under the Chakradharpur Division and beyond, contributing to the FSSAI’s broader mission of creating a healthier India. As the Eat Right Station initiative continues to expand its reach, millions of passengers can look forward to safer and healthier food options during their journeys. This accomplishment reinforces Tatanagar's reputation as a passenger-centric station, aligning with Indian Railways' vision of enhancing travel experiences through better food safety and hygiene standards,” said an official.
Millions of Indians pass through railway stations every day, making them crucial hubs for food consumption. Recognizing the importance of safe and healthy food, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) launched the Eat Right Station initiative, which has been instrumental in ensuring access to nutritious and hygienic food at railway stations across the country.
Till now, 150 railway stations nationwide have been certified as Eat Right Stations, a testimony to the initiative's success. The certification process involves rigorous audits of food vendors, comprehensive training of food handlers, and stringent hygiene and sanitation protocols. This holistic approach aims to provide travelers with safe and quality food, fostering a culture of food safety and health awareness.
