In a heartbreaking turn of events, Chhota Bhim, a tiger from Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve, passed away on Sunday at the Van Vihar National Park in the state capital.
The tiger was rescued in late November 2024 from the Khitauli range, where he was found in a dire state, with a clutch wire noose tightly wrapped around his neck. The injury was grave, and immediate intervention was necessary. Recognising the critical condition of the animal, wildlife authorities rushed him to Van Vihar, where he received extensive medical care.
Despite two months of intensive treatment, including heart care and other vital interventions, the tiger’s health deteriorated, and he tragically succumbed to heart failure. The news has sent ripples of sorrow through wildlife circles, with many expressing deep sympathy for the lost animal.
Post-mortem plans are already underway. A four-member team of veterinarians has been tasked with conducting an autopsy to ascertain the precise cause of death.
