Union Minister and BJP leader Ravneet Singh Bittu on Monday minced no words to accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leadership of conspiring to get Punjabis arrested in Delhi to create political unrest. Urging Punjabis to leave the national capital by 5 pm, Bittu alleged that AAP plans to stage-manage arrests and then blame Delhi Police for targeting Punjabis.
“I request every Punjabi to return to Punjab by today 5 pm. AAP is planning to have them arrested and then cry foul, alleging police atrocities. This is a well-orchestrated conspiracy,” said Bittu while addressing the media outside the Parliament.
The BJP leader also accused AAP MLAs, MPs, and Councillors of bringing thousands of people from Punjab and hiding them in flats and slums across Delhi. He warned that the ruling party might tip off the police themselves, leading to mass arrests that would then be portrayed as a targeted crackdown against Punjabis.
“There are cameras everywhere. FIRs can be registered. I have heard that AAP will themselves inform the police and get you arrested. They will then spin the narrative of injustice to Punjabis…I urge all Punjabis with folded hands to leave the city by 5 pm,” Bittu cautioned.
The Union Minister's remarks have sparked a fresh political controversy, intensifying the already heated political climate ahead of upcoming elections.
Bittu further alleged that Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, under orders from AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal, “forcibly brought” mediapersons from Punjab to Delhi, providing them with forged identities of news channels. These individuals were reportedly deployed to cover slum areas, but when confronted by authorities, their fake credentials were exposed.
“These youngsters from Punjab were given fake media IDs and sent to cover slums. When caught, they were found to be illegally reporting under false names. They are the real victims of AAP’s deception,” Bittu claimed.
