Amid ongoing tension between India and Pakistan, the second part of the Delhi Assembly’s Budget session, which was set to commence on Tuesday, has been cancelled. During the session, the government was likely to table and pass the Delhi School Education Transparency in Fixation and Regulation of Fees Bill, 2025, to regulate private school fees.
Neither the Vidhan Sabha Secretariat nor the Delhi government gave any specific reason for cancelling the session. Sources, however, said that the decision would have been taken due to the ongoing tensions between the two countries.
“CM Rekha Gupta-led Cabinet has already approved the draft of the bill, the Lieutenant Governor has already consented to the session, and Vidhan Sabha Secretariat has made all arrangements to convene it. The opposition, which has 22 MLAS, may raise the Pahalgam attack, which had caused the killing of 26 civilians. The government may announce fresh dates once tension eases,” sources said.
A day after announcing to hold a Tiranga Yatra at Kartavya Path to support Indian Armed Forces on Sunday, the Delhi government had on Sunday cancelled the event. The government, which had announced to carry out the march with the support of various organisations and had appealed to people to join it in maximum numbers, had not given any specific reason behind the cancellation of the programme. Besides this, several programmes of the CM and her ministerial colleagues have also been cancelled amid the ongoing conflict between India and Pakistan.
Leader of Opposition, Atishi, on Saturday said that the first proposal the party will bring in the second part of the session will be a condemnation motion, in which they strongly condemn the cowardly terrorist attack on innocent civilians in Pahalgam.
They want the Delhi Assembly to strongly condemn this attack against humanity. The thanks motion will be brought in honour of the campaign launched by the Indian Armed Forces against terrorism and its supporters under ‘Operation Sindoor’.
