Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced that Vikramotsav-2025 will commence in Ujjain on the occasion of Mahashivratri on February 26 and will continue until Varsh Pratipada on March 30, marking the beginning of the cosmic cycle. The festival will focus on Emperor Vikramaditya's era, India's advancement, renaissance, and Indian wisdom traditions.
The festival will include literary and cultural programs, along with astronomy discussions, intellectual seminars, history and science conventions, Vikram Trade Fair, and activities based on folk and tribal culture. Additionally, the event will feature the launch of the Vikramaditya Vedic Clock App, exhibitions of handicrafts, traditional cuisine, textiles, handloom equipment, and a festival of regional and mythological films, including special screenings dedicated to Lord Krishna.
The event will also host an All India Kavi-Sammelan, the release of research-based books and texts, and the publication of the Vikram Panchang (almanac). Vikramotsav, which integrates cultural, social, and economic activities, is a unique celebration of heritage and progress.
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav addressed the Vikramotsav-2025 Organizing Committee meeting at Samatva Bhavan (CM's residence) and also unveiled the Vikramotsav calendar.
Yadav emphasized that Vikramotsav should reflect the grandeur of Emperor Vikramaditya's multifaceted legacy. Since the festival is approaching soon, all departments must ensure that preparations are completed ahead of schedule through coordinated efforts. He instructed that all scholars, artists, and distinguished guests be welcomed with the spirit of "Atithi Devo Bhava" and that devotees visiting Ujjain for Mahashivratri should not face any inconvenience.
The Chief Minister also directed that exhibitions focused on Emperor Vikramaditya, India's ancient scientific traditions, and Devi Ahilyabai be organized across Ujjain and other locations. Various activities will be conducted to spread awareness about India's wisdome traditions, and poets from tribal languages like Bhili and Gondi will be included in the Kavi-Sammelan.
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav stated that songs, poetry, and literary works centered on Emperor Vikramaditya will be honored during Vikramotsav.
He also announced that the National Science Conference, part of Vikramotsav, will feature events such as drone and robotics shows. Additionally, he directed that science conferences be organized in the Mahakaushal, Bundelkhand, and Baghelkhand regions. Scientists from ISRO and other renowned research and scientific institutions will be invited to participate in these conferences.
Speaking about Vikram Samvat, CM Dr. Yadav emphasized that the establishment of a calendar system is based on strength and good governance. To spread awareness about the various facets of Emperor Vikramaditya's legacy, he directed that activities be conducted to educate the masses.
Furthermore, he instructed that a grand theatrical production on Emperor Vikramaditya, similar to "Jaanata Raja" (a renowned historical play), be staged in various cities across Madhya Pradesh and other major cities in India.
Vikramotsave will have a Grand Inauguration on Mahashivratri with statewide inaugurations of Shivratri fairs. A Kalash Yatra (sacred urn procession) in Ujjain, accompanied by vintage cars, sports bikes, and tribal artists' performances. A special exhibition will be commenced focussed on the 84 Mahadevas. CM Dr. Yadav will Launch of the Vedic Clock App, based on ancient Indian timekeeping. A framework for Simhastha-2028 (Kumbh Mela in Ujjain) will also be outlined. Cultural performances by tabla maestro Shivamani and folk singer Hansraj Raghuwanshi will be organized.
Vikram Trade Fair will be featuring textile, handloom, and handicraft exhibitions for traditional tribal handicrafts, cuisine, and tribal medicinal camps.
February 27, Exhibitions on Indian sage-scientific traditions will be organized, It will showcase Vikram-era coins, Krishna's 64 arts (in Malwa's Chitaravan style), the Holi festival of Krishna, and the 84 Mahadevas. The Displays on Emperor Vikramaditya and Ayodhya, ancient Indian musical instruments, the 108 divine forms of Devi, and Ahilyabai's architectural contributions. The Intellectual discussions on Emperor Vikramaditya's judicial system will be organized on March 1 to March 3, and all India Kavi Sammelan in regional dialects will be organized on March 8 in Lok Rang. International History Convention will be commenced from March 10 to March 12.
A Conference on Vedic astrology and Acharya Varahamihira's contributions will be organized from March 15 to March 16.
March 21 onwards the Mahadev Sculpture Workshop and Mandana Art Camps, International Mythological Film Festival (March 21-25), Tribal cultural film screenings under "Adi Bimb" (March 21-25), Vikram Drama Festival (March 21-29), including Vedic Antakshari and an All India Poets' Conference (March 22), and National Science Conference & Science Festival (March 26-28) will be organized.
On March 30 - The Nav Samvatsar (Hindu New Year) Celebrations will include Surya worship ceremonies and Ujjaini Gaurav Diwas, Release of special publications, Emperor Vikramaditya Alankaran Ceremony will be Organized. On this event, renowned musical artists will perform. The Event will be celebrated with GrandAtishbazi display.
