A powerful explosion near Delhi’s historic Red Fort on Monday evening left eight people dead and six others injured, sending shockwaves across the national capital. The blast, which occurred near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station, ripped through a parked car with such intensity that nearby vehicles caught fire and were reduced to mangled heaps of metal. Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos as flames engulfed multiple vehicles and injured victims lay on the road awaiting help.
Emergency responders rushed to the site, with 20 fire tenders and multiple police units quickly cordoning off the area. The injured were immediately shifted to Lok Nayak Hospital (LNJP), where doctors confirmed eight fatalities. Visuals from the scene showed a van with its doors blown apart and shattered glass scattered across the street.
Officials said the cause and nature of the explosion remain under investigation. Forensic and anti-terror teams have been deployed to collect evidence and determine whether it was an accident or a deliberate act. Following the blast, security alerts have been issued in Uttar Pradesh and Mumbai. The Red Fort area, a major tourist hub, remains sealed off as investigations continue.
