HM links Opposition to infiltrators

Union Home Minister Amit Shah hit out at the Congress’s Voter Adhikar Yatra on Wednesday, saying the Opposition party organised the rally to “protect infiltrators” as it wants to win elections with their help. He further referred to the Congress rally as “Ghuspaithiya bachao yatra” (Save infiltrators rally).

Speaking in the Capital on the 75th birthday celebration of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Shah said, “Rahul Baba and the Congress party have just embarked on the protect the infiltrators rally (ghuspathiya bachao). The Opposition party wants infiltrators to remain on our voter list because it does not have faith in the people of this country and is seeking to win elections on the basis of infiltrators. The BJP supports the SIR exercise to cleanse the electoral rolls,” he said.

The Congress held the 14-day and 1,300-km-long Voter Adhikar Yatra in Bihar to mark its protest against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls conducted by the Election Commission of India (ECI) in the poll-bound State.

Bihar will go to the polls later this year. The Congress and other Opposition parties have alleged that the exercise is aimed at depriving people of their right to vote. The Home Minister also inaugurated and laid the foundation stones of various development projects worth about Rs 1,723 crore of the Delhi Government under the Seva Pakhwada. The projects and schemes launched virtually by Shah included five new hospital blocks, 101 Ayushman Arogya Mandir clinics, 150 dialysis machines, registration of 50,000 persons under the old age pension scheme, and 10 resource centres for children with special needs. He also unveiled the Atal Asha nursing home and hostel in Narela, a financial assistance scheme for caregivers of individuals with high support needs, a hostel for college-going visually impaired girls, the Savitri Bai Phule shelter home for senior citizens, and 24 quick-response vehicles for firefighting in congested areas.

On this occasion, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Union Minister Harsh Malhotra, and many other dignitaries were present. Shah also announced the inauguration of the Narela-Bawana Waste-to-Energy Plant in Delhi that will process 3,000 tons of waste, alongside the Okhla plant handling 2,000 metric tons, to generate electricity, boosting the circular economy and green energy. He said the Modi government is going to generate electricity from the massive garbage mounds that once shamed the people of Delhi.
