Ambassador Akhilesh, John discuss bilateral cooperation

Strengthening India-Ireland relations, Ambassador of India to Ireland, Akhilesh Mishra met with the Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade, John Lahart, at Parliament building of Ireland.

During their meeting, Chairman Lahart warmly reflected on the deepening presence of the Indian community in Ireland, including Indian professionals residing in his own parliamentary constituency.

He conveyed his appreciation for the community’s contributions and affirmed that, in his capacity as Chairman of the Foreign Affairs and Trade Committee, India remains a priority partner for Ireland.  He also assured his continued support for advancing bilateral cooperation and welcomed further consultations as needed. Ambassador Mishra expressed heartfelt gratitude to Chairman Lahart for his steadfast support and friendship toward India and the Indian diaspora in Ireland. He highlighted the strong public support extended by the Irish Government and civil society in response to the recent misdirected attacks on members of the Indian community.

“The categorical condemnations of such incidents by President Michael D Higgins, Deputy PM Simon, Minister for Justice, and the Garda Commissioner have sent a powerful message of solidarity and reassurance to the Indian community in Ireland and to their families back home,” Ambassador Mishra said.  The Ambassador also briefed Chairman Lahart on the significant growth in bilateral trade and the expanding multi-sectoral engagement between the two countries. He emphasized that this progress has been made possible due to sustained collaboration between the Governments in New Delhi and Dublin, as well as through close coordination between the Embassy of India in Dublin and the Embassy of Ireland in New Delhi, led by Ambassador Kevin Kelly, an experienced and respected Irish diplomat.

The two leaders also exchanged views on emerging global trends and shared international interests, reaffirming their commitment to stronger diplomatic cooperation in a dynamic geopolitical environment. The meeting underscored the shared values and mutual respect that continue to shape India-Ireland relations, with both leaders reaffirming their commitment to building a stronger.
