Cong slams TRS for supporting NDA in Dy Chairman poll in RS
With Telangana Rashtra Samiti extending support to the NDA candidate in the election of Deputy Chairman Rajya Sabha and playing an important role in his victory, the Congress party has found yet another opening to launch a fresh broadside against the ruling party in Telangana.
TRS support has come in the backdrop of numerous indications of TRS supremo K Chandrasekhar Rao moving closer to the BJP and Prime Minister Modi. The two have met twice in less than two months in sharp contrast to the past when Modi had made KCR waiting for a long time before granting him an appointment.
TRS’s support to the NDA candidate Harivansh Narayan Singh had become imminent after Bihar Chief Minister and Janata Dal United leader Nitish Kumar spoke to KCR over phone and sought support as Singh belonged to his party.
Reacting strongly to the TRS stance Telangana Congress committee president N Uttam Kumar Reddy said that this has again exposed KCR’s love for Modi. In an informal chat with the media he said, “this has proved again that KCR’s party was an undeclared ally of BJP and KCR was an agent of Prime Minister Narendar Modi”.
Telangana Congress was trying aggressively to woo back the crucial Muslim minority support in the state by highlighting the failure of KCR government in fulfilling the promise of increasing quota for Muslims to 12% and growing proximity between KCR and Modi.
However TRS leaders have denied the Congress allegation and rejected the claim that the party had support the BJP. “the candidate belonged to the JD U and we supported him because of Nitish Kumar’s appeal”, a party MP said.
Meanwhile TRS continued to mount pressure on the Centre to accept its demands of according national project status to Kaleshwara lift irrigation scheme project. A delegation of TRS MPs met the Prime Minister Modi in New Delhi today and raised the issue of handing over defence lands in Hyderabad and Secunderabad to the state government for various development project. They demanded a land to build a flyover to link National Highway No 44 and solve the problem of traffic congestion. They also urged the Prime Minister to give either Bison Polo Ground land or Gymkahana land for the construction of new secretariat and the state assembly building in Secunderabad.
MPs led by AP Jitendar Reddy met Modi a day after TRS demand for national status to Kaleshwaram project was rejected by the Centre in Parliament. Minister for water resources Nitin Gadkhari said in Lok Sabha that under the AP Reorganization Act the Centre was committed to treat the Polavaram project of Andhra Pradesh as national project and it will be completed.
