Netanyahu: Modi making India powerful
The Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, was all praise for his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi for his vision of new India, saying that Modi is transforming India into one of the most powerful nations in the world.
Netanyahu evinced keen interest to join hands with Indian entrepreneurs during his maiden visit to Modi's home-State Gujarat on Wednesday.
Addressing a gathering of business community at the inauguration of International Centre for Entrepreneurship and Technology (iCreate) campus situated at Bavala village on the outskirts of Ahmedabad, the Israeli PM said that the world knew about iPads and iPods but it also needed to know about iCreate.
"I am delighted to be here. The world knows about iPads and iPods, there is one more ‘i’ that the world needs to know about, that is ‘iCreate’. Israel wants to build partnership with you. We are your partners and I want Israeli youth to come to India," he said.
He went on to say that Israel is prepared to partner with India in every possible field including water, agriculture, health and life sciences.
Netanyahu struck the chord with the audience by saying Jai Hind, Jai Bharat and Jai Israel and affirmed cooperation between India and Israel for the development of future technologies and entrepreneurship.
iCreate is the brainchild of PM Modi, who, as Gujarat Chief Minister, had launched it in 2011. The concept of iCreate is to incubate and nurture technology startups.
After inaugurating the campus in the presence of Netanyahu, Modi announced that 18 entrepreneurs from iCreate would be sent to Israel to get an exposure to advanced technologies. iCreate and the Israeli Innovation Authority share a strong relationship to work together to promote entrepreneurship, innovation and technology and its use in offering solutions to the Indian market.
In his speech, Modi appreciated Israeli technology and creativity which has influenced the world immensely. He said Israel was the best example of commitment of people that took the nation forward.
On the occasion Netanyahu also gifted a vehicle equipped with desalination plant. This water treatment plant costs approximately US $ 111,000.
Thanking Israeli PM for the gift, Modi said that the vehicle would be utilised in border areas of Banaskantha district where BSF jawans and villagers would be benefited.
Later, both the leaders visited a Centre of Excellence (CoE) for Vegetables at Vadrad village in Prantij in Sabarkantha district, developed under Indo-Israel Agriculture Work Plan for exchange of advanced farming technology. They also inaugurated a research facility for cultivation of dates in Kutch through remote control.
The CoE, set up with a grant of Rs 11.47 crore under the National Horticulture Mission (NHM), is supported by Gujarat Government's horticulture department and Israeli Foreign Ministry's capacity building programme.
At the CoE, Modi said his Government was working to double farmers' income by 2022. To achieve the goal, factors like maximum utilisation of land resources, minimum wastage of water and agri-produce should be considered using modern technologies, he added.
Earlier during the day, Modi and Netanyahu attended a 8-km long 'India Cultural Road Show' from Sardar Patel Airport to Gandhi Ashram on the bank of River Sabarmati. For the road show, nearly 50 stages were created enroute Sabarmati Ashram and cultures of 15 Indian States were depicted through dance and other forms. School children performed Yoga and Ganesh Vandana at one of the stages. Sign boards in Hebrew language also drew the attention of visiting Israeli delegation. After paying homage to Mahatma Gandhi at the Ashram, Netanyahu and his wife also flew kite on the bank of River Sabarmati.
