Anil Agarwal urges Zinc galvanization

Vedanta Group Chairman Anil Agarwal has called for a nationwide push to adopt zinc galvanization to protect India’s infrastructure and economy from corrosion during the monsoon season. In a social media post, Agarwal highlighted that rusting of iron and steel costs India about 5% of its GDP annually — a loss he called “massive and avoidable.”“Everything made of iron or steel is prone to rusting due to wetness and moisture,” Agarwal said, urging wider use of zinc coatings to extend the lifespan of infrastructure, vehicles, and buildings.He also emphasized zinc’s emerging role in clean energy technologies as a potential alternative to lithium in batteries. Vedanta’s Hindustan Zinc Limited, the world’s largest integrated zinc producer, is championing galvanization to improve durability and reduce maintenance costs. Agarwal warned that embracing zinc galvanization is critical for India’s industrial resilience and economic growth amid increasing weather challenges.
