Our Take

Sex & The President

|
Sex & The President
Donald Trump is not the first and certainly won’t be the last American President who sleeps around. But his affair with porn star Stormy Daniels has not just boosted traffic to porn sites but might be in contravention of US Campaign Finance laws as the alleged $130,000 pay-off to buy her silence was made during the height of the US Election campaign. As Trump’s own lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, admitted, the Democrats would have had a field day had this news emerged in October 2016. Trump is now safely, for the time being, ensconced inside the White House. But the ‘hush money’ did not do its job as it failed in buying Daniels’ silence and might even be the final torpedo that sinks Trump. Or will it?

Trump is proving to be the ultimate survivor. Despite American coastal elites raging against him, and one Public Relations disaster after another, Trump seems to survive everything. The Stormy Daniels case, though, has major legal implications for Trump. But the US judicial system is not exactly fast, and if Trump’s lawyers, including a gaffe-prone Giuliani, can keep things at abeyance until 2020, he's got a decent shot at re-election by all accounts. News on the US President and his sex scandal will continue to generate traction till then.
