Rising India Seminar

The East-West Center, US organised a new-generation seminar — Rising India in collaboration with Indian partner KIIT. The seminar marked the programme’s historic first visit to India, highlighting the country’s growing economy and rising role in Asia Pacific regional affairs.

The seminar offered leaders and policymakers a chance to examine the key development issues facing countries throughout the region in the 21st century—the need to provide environmentally and economically sustainable economic growth, good jobs, quality services, and more equitable and inclusive prosperity.

Participants learnt from India’s vibrant civil society and technology sectors, which are pioneering innovative ways to address these challenges.

Himalayan Univ Awarded

The Himalayan Univeristy, Itanagar was awarded leading university of the year (Eastern India) under brands achiever award for pursued excellence in consumer satisfaction. Cricketer Ajay Jadeja was the chief guest.

The award was received by Himalayan University deputy director  Prabh Mohan. Speaking at the ceremony, he said: “It’s an honour to receive this award. Being one of the top ranking universities, we are committed to bring students world-class study environment with experienced faculty.”

MIT Pilot Programme

EdX co-founder and partner MIT announced a pilot program allowing learners worldwide to take a semester’s worth of courses in its top-ranked, one-year Supply Chain Management (SCM) master’s programme completely online, then complete an MIT master’s degree by spending a single semester on campus.

The degree pilot will feature a new way of structuring admissions to a professional master’s programme at MIT. Learners worldwide with access to edX can take any of the first semester’s worth of courses online.

The MIT has also announced a new academic credential for the digital age: The “MicroMaster’s which can be earned on edX by students who pass a comprehensive examination upon the successful completion of the series of supply chain management edX MOOCs. The MicroMaster’s has no admissions requirements.

Monoprint Making At IIAD

The Indian Institute of Art and Design (IIAD) rganised a The Magic of Monoprint Making at their campus. The workshop focus was on using the process of relief printmaking as a tool for producing complex textures, and vivid layers of imagery and color for unique artwork.

Students of Designing Department participated in this type of printmaking that produces one of a kind prints made by drawing or painting on a smooth, non-absorbent surface. This workshop covers a range of monoprint techniques that include creating textures with found objects, working with layers and exploring the mix of colors. Student’s individual style will dictate the direction of their final prints.

Speaking at the event Dr Usha Nehru Patel, dean IIAD said: “These kinds of workshops should be included on a regular basis, and they not only enhance the skills of students but bring out their latent abilities. A good designer should know how to crate things intelligible and memorable, great design should always be memorable.” Dr Jitin Chaddha, director IIAD thanked guests of honor.

Digital Learning Initiative

NIIT Ltd recently announced the launch of — a digital learning initiative that brings skilling from NIIT classrooms to every digitally connected Indian, for free, at any time and place.

A disruptive innovation for the education space, it will deliver for the very first time, skill-based live courses as well as on-demand courses to the masses, through the digital medium. The initiative promises to meet the vast education, training and skilling needs of the country, in support of the goals of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and the National Skill Development Corporation.

 Rahul Patwardhan, CEO, NIIT Ltd, said: “This launch is aligned to the digital India and skill India campaigns announced by Prime Minister, Modi earlier this year. We are deeply committed to these campaigns and believe that a properly skilled and digitally connected India can emerge as the next super power.”

 Gandhi Jayanti Celebration At Ryan

The chief guest Colonel Rajnesh Kumar and school principal Sandhya Sabu encouraged the students to follow the path shown by Gandhiji. The Ryan excellence awards for classes IX and X were also presented in the presence of the parents of the awardees who  graced the occasion and motivated the students. Thought provoking presentations, mesmerising singing and a dramatised representation of Gandhi’s life added colour to the event.
