India women's cricket coach Arothe resigns

new delhi: India's women cricket team coach Tushar Arothe has stepped down from the role, citing personal reasons, the BCCI announced on Tuesday. "The BCCI on Tuesday accepted Tushar Arothe's resignation. Arothe cited personal reasons behind his resignation and thanked the BCCI for giving him an opportunity to work with the Indian Women's cricket team," a statement from BCCI read. "The Board would like to convey that it has been a pleasure working with Arothe and would like to thank him for his services towards the Indian Women's team," it added. Under his stint, the team reached the final of the ICC Women's World Cup in 2017. In 2018, the team won the three-match ODI series and five-match T20I series in South Africa. Earlier this year, the team successfully reached the final of the Asia Cup held in Malaysia. "The Board is in search for Arothe's replacement," the statement said.

Harman may be demoted to constable's post

chandigarh: Indian Women's T-20 Captain and vice-captain of women's national team Harmanpreet Kaur, who was appointed as a deputy superintendent of police (DySP) in March this year on the basis of her sporting credentials, may be demoted to the rank of constable after her graduation degree was found to be "fake" by Punjab Police. "As her graduation degree was found to be fake, Harmanpreet's qualification can now be treated as Class XII. So she can be given the post of constable which matches her educational qualification," said a senior government official. The government, however, is yet to take a final decision as the home department has sought comments from the director general of police on this matter. "The file (pertaining to Harmanpreet) has been sent to the DGP office for his comments," a senior official of the Home Department said. According to the service rules, a candidate has to be a graduate for the post of DSP in Punjab.

India bag four medals at Asian Archery

taipei: India bagged three Silver medals and a Bronze to finish joint third with Iran in the Asia Cup World Ranking Tournament Stage 3 here on Tuesday. The event concluded in two days to avoid the incoming super typhoon Maria, and on the concluding day, recurve men's team added a second Silver before Divya Dhayal clinched a third Silver in the compound individual category. Women's recurve team defeated its opponents from Japan 6-2 in the evening session to win the Bronze playoff. India ended their campaign behind toppers Korea and hosts Chinese Taipei. Korea topped the tally with eight Gold, three Silver and as many Bronze followed by hosts Taipei (2-1-2).

Torres to join Japanese club Sagan Tosu

madrid: Former Spain forward Fernando Torres on Tuesday announced that he will turn out for Japanese club Sagan Tosu. "My new team will be Sagan Tosu in Japan," the 34-year-old was quoted as saying by ESPNFC.  "Yesterday we signed the contract. They were one of the first clubs to show interest in me, and I appreciate their insistence and how they convinced me with their sporting, personal and cultural project." Torres, who played for Atletico Madrid and Liverpool among other clubs, had been linked A-League club Sydney FC and MLS side Chicago Fire. Torres, has won the 2010 World Cup and the 2008 and 2010 European Championships with Spain.
