Baleswar ZP Zone 26 by-poll on Jan 19

| | BALESWAR | in Bhubaneswar

Ahead of the upcoming by-poll to be held for ZP Zone 26 in Baleswar district, all major political parties, BJD, Congress and BJP, have braced up for the electoral battle by boosting their strengths and tactics.

On Saturday, around 200 workers, including 18 leaders, belonging to the BJP and the Congress joined the BJD in the presence of MP RK Jena, Higher Education Minister Ananta Das, Sadar MLA JP Dash, Nilgiri MLA Sukanta Nayak and Badasahi MLA Ganeswar Patra, among others.

They said they joined the BJD after being impressed by welfare measures taken by the State Government and the clean image of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

It may be noted that a by-poll has been necessitated for ZP Zone 26 of Baleswar as incumbent BJP ZP member Binay Das died following a road accident.

While BJD has fielded Kamal Sahu, BJP has brought Parsuram Parida and Congress Manoj Nayak into the fray. Joining of the above leaders and workers would pose problems for both the BJP and the Congress, opined political observers.

Besides the three candidates, CPI candidate Bandana Patra and independent candidate Ramakanta Gud are also in the fray. Votes would be divided and joining of new leaders and workers would help the BJD to snatch away the seat from the BJP, opined many.

Meanwhile, the district administration has conducted a review meeting  for the ensuing by-poll to be conducted at 88 booths under the Sadar block. As many as 264 staffs would be engaged and all the polling activities would be video-graphed.
