Plan put in place to curb migration in B’gnir, N’pada

To prevent distress migration, the State Government has worked out an Integrated Action Plan (IAP) and decided to implement it on a pilot basis in 30 GPs of thee blocks in two districts, Balangir and Nuapada.

It was revealed at a high-level meeting held under the chairmanship of Development Commissioner R Balakrishnan at the State Secretariat. Labour and ESI Principal Secretary Anu Garg and Labour Commissioner  Sachin Ramchandra Jadav were present.

The Development Commissioner directed to step up the activities with focused and integrated interventions in 30 GPs of Bolangir and Nuapada district for curtailing the distress migration during coming season. He also directed to fill up the vacant posts.  The Collectors reviewed the field level activities at regular intervals.

Three blocks namely Belpada and Khaprakhol in Bolangir district and Nuapada in Nuapada district were identified for pilot intervention with Integrated Action Plan.

“Around 8,433 households in two blocks of Balangir district and 719 HHs in Nuapada block of Nuapada district have been identified as migration prone. The details of family members, land holding, livelihood options of these households have also been surveyed in collaboration with Tata Trust as per previous MOU signed with them by Government of Odisha,” said Garg.

Various departments were directed to rollout the activities in advance in direct touch with the people.  While Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment Department would take up activities like agro forestry, poultry, horticulture, micro-irrigation, millet mission, dug well and distribution of pump set and sprinklers, irrigation department would intensify the activities of lift irrigation and the Panchayati Raj Department would scale up the projects under MGNREGS for creation of employment opportunities and DDUGKY for skilling the people.

Agriculture Secretary Saurabh Garg, Skill Development and Technical Education Sanjya Singh, Labor Commissioner Sachin Jadav, Technical Expert Dr BB Acharya along with senior officers of the Tata Trust were present.
