Woman drug peddler arrested in Rourkela

A woman drug peddler was arrested by police on Tuesday from Minapada slum of the city for allegedly operating a brown sugar racket.

Sources said brown sugar worth Rs 2 lakh and cash of Rs 1.66 lakh were seized from her possession.

A special squad of the Plant Site police, under the direction of the Rourkela SP, conducted a raid and arrested the woman. Around 20 grams of brown sugar was recovered from her possession.

The woman was running the racket in the area after procuring the contraband from Kharagpur in West Bengal.

Police said a manhunt has been launched to arrest other five accused involved in the racket.

“We had an inputs that the woman was selling brown sugar in Minapada slum of the city. We formed a special team and raided the area and arrested her.

We also seized brown sugar weighing around 20 grams and cash Rs 1.66 lakh she had collected after selling the contraband. She has been forwarded to the court. Efforts are on to nab five other accused whom the woman named as associates during her interrogation,” informed Rourkela DSP Pradyumna Kumar Mishra.
