Scientist arrested for alleged sexual assault

Dehradun: Dehradun police have arrested a scientist aged around 50 on the charge of sexually exploiting a woman in his house on Saturday. A case under section 376 of IPC was registered against the accused in Dalanwala police station. The accused was sent to Suddhowala jail after being produced in the court, said a police station officer. The statement of woman was recorded before the magistrate. Medical examination of the woman was also completed. The woman complainant had earlier registered a complaint, stating that she was allegedly sexually exploited by the scientist.  

Guv, CM greet people on eve of festivals

Dehradun: Uttarakhand Governor KK Paul and Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat have greeted the people of the State on the occasion of Makar Sankranti, Pongal, Bihu and Lohri, wishing for peace, happiness and prosperity for all. In his message on the eve of Makar Sankranti, the Governor said that festivals bring freshness and energy to our live. Festivals help create a feeling of social harmony. They are part of our traditions and help us maintain a healthy society, he added. The CM also greeted the people on the occasion, praying for peace and well being of the people. The festival is an occasion to recharge ourselves with freshness, he said in his message.

police conduct extensive vehicle checking drive

Dehradun: Acting on a tip- off by the Punjab Police informing of four hard- core criminals moving in a car in Dehradun, Dehradun police have conducted an extensive vehicle checking drive and arrested the quartet  from Cantt area of the city on Saturday. Firearms and   cartridges were recovered from their possession, said Dehradun SSP Nivedita Kukreti. The accused have been identified as Harsimaran Deep Singh and Phulvindar Singh, natives of Faridkot, Punjab; Ramesh Kumar and Rohit Badu, natives of Rajasthan. A bounty of Rs two lakh was announced by Punjab police on the head of Harsimanran Deep Singh, police informed.
