ABVP affiliated students burn VC’s effigy

The students owing affiliation to the Akhil Bharatiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP) burned the effigy of the Vice Chancellor (VC) of HNB Garhwal University at DAV College campus on Wednesday. The students are agitated as the University has not released the date of the semester examinations for four colleges of Dehradun.

The ABVP activists assembled the college campus on the day and engaged in slogan shouting against the university. It is worth mentioning here that the university bowing to the pressure exerted by the teacher unions suspended the semester examination in four colleges.

The teachers opposed holding of the examinations during their winter vacations.

Addressing the students, the President of the student union of the DAV College, Shubham Simalti said that the students are paying the price of the laxity of the university. He said that due to the winter vacation in the colleges, the semester examinations of the HNB University were suspended midway. It must be written here that it is a serious issue and it must be addressed as soon as possible.

It resulted in holding of some of the examinations and suspension of some other examinations.

He said that the students are facing problems due to the standoff between the teachers and the university. Simalti said that the students had met the VC on the issue in recent past where he had assured that the dates would be declared soon but nothing has happed so far. The Student leaders threatened that they would be forced to intensify their agitation if immediate decision on their demand is not taken soon.
