Domestic help held in theft

In connection with a sensational theft where jewellery, cameras worth lakhs of Rupees and licensed fire arm along with bullets were stolen from a house located in Shahinbagh, Jaimaniwala (Guniyal Gaon), the police have arrested a former help of the family. The stolen jewellery and other things have been recovered from the possession of the arrested culprit. According to a rough estimate, the theft amounted to staggering Rs 1.5 Crores.

Informing about the arrest, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Nivedita Kukreti said that on February 6, Arun Gupta of Jaimaniwala lodged a complaint that his house was burgled while the family was in Delhi in connection with a family programme. The Rajpur police lodged a FIR in the case. The SSP said that in view of the sensitivity of the burglary, a special team of police was constituted which was headed by SP city.

The team deployed dog squad and interrogated some of the workers employed by the Gupta family.

Investigation revealed that one Avdesh Kumar Yadav, resident of district Faizabad district used to work in the resort of Gupta’s and had left his job in September 2017. On being suspicious, the police team apprehended Yadav from a hotel in Chiriyapur in Haridwar. On interrogation, he accepted his involvement in the crime. In a startling revelation he said that Gupta was not a good paymaster and used to hold his salary; frustrated, he left the job but planned to burgle the house of Gupta or harm him physically.

Yadav told the Police that he had even bought a sharp edged weapon for the purpose. The police recovered stolen jewellery and firearm from his possession.
