Open old-age homes in all districts in three months: HC

| | Nainital | in Dehradun

The State Government should open old age homes in all districts of Uttarakhandwithin three months. These old age homes (Vriddhashrams) should have various modern facilities along with medical facilities, ordered the High Court of Uttarakhand. The high court division bench of justice Rajiv Sharma and justice Lok Pal Singh issued this order while hearing on a public interest litigation filed by the senior citizen welfare society of Haldwani on Tuesday. According to the case details, the petitioner had stated that there is one old-age home each in Champawat and Chamoli districts while the old age homes in Haridwar and Dehradun are managed by non governmental organisations. There are no old age homes in the other districts, the petitioner had stated. Taking serious cognisance of this, the division bench of the high court directed the state government to open old age homes in all the districts within three months.
