East Singhbhum has performed better than its neighbours - West Singhbhum and Seraikela- Kharswan - in the Matric exam. In Kolhan, East Singhbhum scored 68.22 while Seraikela Kharswan with 57.55 per cent and West Singhbhum with 56.05 per cent.

East Singhbhum district education officer (DEO) R.K.P. Singh said they are satisfied with overall performance considering the number of teachers available in high schools.

“We have to be satisfied with the results because the way my students have performed despite less number of teachers. There are only 11.5 per cent teachers out of the total sanctioned post in the district. In spite of that we are placed third among all the 24 districts. I am happy. Due to lack of teachers we were not able to conduct remedial classes for every weak student. However, we would study the results. There is always scope for improvement. We will work to improve our performance,” said Singh.

“In fact we had taken efforts of remedial classes and have also asked professionals to render their service for students and yet this is the scenario which I think is great. We cannot expect a better result without regular teachers. Also there is not only science that is the concern. There are other subjects as well. Hopefully the dearth of teachers will get addressed within a couple of months,” said another official of the education department.

An official of Seraikela-Kharsawan said that the district has been performing better since 2016 with the available resources. "We have improved our performance over the years. Last year it was in the 19th position and this time its 13th. We will call a meeting and review performance for better results in future,” he said.
