Except three districts, the telecom infrastructure is almost restored in Odisha post Cyclone Fani, said Department of Telecommunications (DoT) Additional Secretary Anshu Prakash here on Monday.
“In all the districts barring three districts, Puri, Khordha, Cuttack, the telecom infrastructure has been nearly fully restored. Now we are focusing on Puri, where the damage was most extensive,†Prakash said.
He said that nearly 80 per cent network have been restored and functional in Khordha, Cuttack and little bit in Jagatsinghpur.
He said in Puri, the restoration work would be completed and networks would become normal soon.
He said the DoT had extended helping hand to various mobile services subscribers after the cyclone devastated the telecommunication services in the coastal districts.
“During the period, free SMS services were permitted and more than 2 crore free SMSes have been sent. And we also permitted free intra-circle roaming that means any person with any connection can use whichever network is available. More than 10 lakh calls have been made using intra-circle roaming,†Prakash said.
However, unlike mobile networks, the landline telephone services have been restored in the areas excluding Khordha and Puri.
