To ensure smooth conduct of upcoming Lok Sabha Elections 2024 in Punjab, the state’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Sibin C on Wednesday convened a high-level meeting with Deputy Commissioners (DCs), Commissioners of Police (CPs), and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) across the State to assess the preparations and address critical issues pertaining to the electoral process.

Sibin C, chairing the meeting conducted via video conference, emphasized the paramount importance of maintaining vigilance against the spread of fake news and any potential violations of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). The officials present were directed to prioritize these concerns and take proactive measures to uphold the integrity of the electoral process.

During the comprehensive review, the CEO delved into various aspects of election preparedness, including arrangements at polling stations, deployment of polling staff, vulnerable mapping, Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) activities, webcasting, CRPF deployment, communication strategies, and interstate border security.

Each district's progress and initiatives were meticulously evaluated, with a focus on essential tasks such as EPIC distribution, voter information dissemination, webcasting logistics, EVM storage and transportation protocols, and identification of vulnerable polling areas. Moreover, steps to enhance the efficiency of polling operations, such as establishment of additional Model Polling Booths, were deliberated upon to streamline the voting process.

The district officials provided comprehensive updates on their respective initiatives aimed at achieving the overarching goal of 'Iss Vaar 70 Paar' (Crossing the 70 per cent voter turnout mark). They reaffirmed their commitment to adhering to the guidelines set forth by the Election Commission of India (ECI) to ensure a transparent and seamless electoral exercise.

In light of the anticipated challenges posed by the prevailing weather conditions, the CEO stressed the importance of safeguarding the well-being of polling staff. Measures to mitigate the risks of heat stroke, including provision of adequate shade, drinking water, waiting areas, and quality sanitation facilities at polling stations and counting centers, were emphasized to ensure the health and safety of all personnel involved.
