The Chhattisgarh Police have arrested eight people from West Bengal and brought them here for operating an online cricket betting racket through the Reddy Anna App, an official communiqué said on Wednesday.
The police detained a person in Raipur after learning he was operating the betting racket. After interrogating him and analyzing his phone, they acquired the phone numbers of other operators in Kolkata.
The Anti-Crime and Cyber Unit camping there arrested Prakash Wadhwani, Jaiprakash Joshi, Praful Martin, Felix Marian, Ashish Harry, Reshu Kumar, Sohan Sen and Kishan Sabnani. Their leader Mohit Somani is absconding.
The police confiscated five laptops, 36 mobile phones, 24 bank pass books, 24 ATM cards and about Rs 12 lakh cash from them. A court sent them all to prison.
