Voting Invitations: Punjab's festive spin on democratic participation

Wednesday, 01 May 2024 | PNS | Chandigarh

Punjab is set to infuse a touch of festivity into its democratic process as the Election authorities embark on an innovative endeavour to celebrate the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections-2024 as the “festival of democracy”. In a delightful twist to achieve the ambitious target of 70 per cent polling turnout, voters across the State will receive special “voting invitation cards” personally delivered to their doorsteps by the Deputy Commissioners via booth-level officers (BLOs).

The initiative, spearheaded by the Office of the state Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Sibin C, aligned with the overarching campaign theme of ‘Is Vaar 70 Paar’ (This time, crossing 70). The goal is to encourage maximum participation in the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections-2024, scheduled for June 1.

Punjab CEO Sibin C emphasized the importance of voter engagement and satisfaction, underscoring the significance of each citizen’s role in shaping democracy. The ‘Voting Invitation’ cards, equipped with QR codes for easy access to polling booth information, aim to enhance voter convenience and awareness.

As part of the larger election awareness campaigns conducted under SVEEP (Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation), the initiative seeks to make the voting experience enjoyable and seamless for every voter. From providing essential amenities like drinking water and clean toilets to ensuring comfortable waiting areas, adequate arrangements are being made at polling booths to accommodate voters.

In his appeal to the electorate, CEO Sibin C urged the voters to actively participate in the electoral process and exercise their right to vote responsibly, thus contributing to the strengthening of democracy in Punjab. With these innovative measures, Punjab is all set to turn the act of voting into a celebration of civic duty and democratic values.
