Chowdhury to stay as leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha

Thursday, 15 July 2021 | PNS | New Delhi

Contrary to speculation that the Congress might replace Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury as Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, party sources indicated that he is likely to stay in this position.

There is no change in the post of Leader of Congress in the Lok Sabha party at present. In this session, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury will

remain the Leader of Congress in Lok Sabha,” Congress sources said after a virtual meeting on party Parliament Strategy held by Congress chief Sonia Gandhi.

Amongst other, Shashi Tharoor's name had emerged as frontrunner for the post in the Lok Sabha if Adhir was to be replaced

Besides deliberating on the issues to be taken by Congress during the Monsoon session of the Parliament commencing Monday, sources said there was no talk about the Punjab Congress controversy or on the meetings by former poll strategist Prashant Kishor.

The Congress Parliamentarians also discussed on how to bring like minded opposition parties on board to protest the steep rise in fuel prices, edible products, country's foreign policy and above all on the prolonged protest by farmers and the way government handled the pandemic and the slow state of covid vaccination.

Sonia is believed to ask the party's MPs of both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha to leave no stone unturned to attack and counter the Modi led Government on

concerning issues like massive employment and restlessness amongst all segments of the society.

She also instructed to corner the Centre on the recent land controversy related to the development of Ram Temple at Ayodhya and demand an explanation on the land scam.
