Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave the mantra of victory at every polling booth to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers while addressing them at the Rudraksh Convention Centre (Sigra) after filing his nomination papers from the Varanasi Lok Sabha seat on Tuesday.
Expressing gratitude for the grand success of his roadshow, he urged BJP workers to maintain their zeal and enthusiasm until June 1.
Modi emphasised that winning the trust of people is not easy. “If one wants to win even in panchayat elections, one has to work hard and remain dedicated to the people 24 hours a day; only then do people give their love and blessings,” he said, adding, “The love, enthusiasm, and blessings seen in the roadshow should be reflected in the electronic voting machines (EVMs). It is the responsibility of BJP workers to ensure victory at every polling booth. I did a roadshow here in 2014 and then in 2019. These days, I am doing three or four roadshows a week across the country, but a day ago, all the records of roadshows were broken in Varanasi.”
“What you are doing today, I have also done for many years of my life. No one feels happier than a worker when his resolution is fulfilled,” he said, giving credit to the workers for the accomplishments in Kashi over the past 10 years.
“I am confident that you will handle it this time as well and leave no stone unturned to win the elections,” he told the workers.
Reiterating the mantra of winning each and every polling booth, Modi stated that processions, slogans, and roadshows do not affect the election booth. “It does not matter whether it is victory or defeat, but if we lag behind in the voting percentage, what will I show as a representative of Kashi? Therefore, the resolution should be to win the polling booth,” he said, adding that to win the polling booth, party workers should turn voting into a celebration of democracy. They have 14 days to invite all the societies and localities in the entire polling booths.
He urged the workers to organise programmes to increase the voting percentage. “On the day you go to vote, see who came to vote and who did not. Those who did not come, it should be your responsibility to somehow bring them to the polling booth to vote,” he said. Giving an example, he said that if there are 10 workers at a booth, each should ensure they bring at least 30 voters.
“Calculate the number of votes received at our booth last time. This time, that record has to be broken. Just as Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee sacrificed for the removal of Article 370, we have fulfilled this dream. The biggest event of my life is seeing large numbers of people vote in Jammu and Kashmir and Srinagar. These are signs of India’s bright future. This is the result of our 10 years of hard work,” he said, adding that his concern is not whether someone from the party wins or not, but the satisfaction that democracy has been strengthened.
“People should be shown this grand transformation that has taken place in Srinagar. If Srinagar can do it, then can’t Kashi do it?” he asked, wishing that out of the total votes cast in every polling booth, 370 new votes should be cast.
“This will be my true tribute to Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee,” he added.
