Mayawati to campaign in Amroha, Ghaziabad today

Sunday, 21 April 2024 | PNS | Lucknow

Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati will campaign for her party candidates in Amroha and Ghaziabad on Sunday.

The meeting in Amroha will be held near the police lines while Kavinagar will be the venue of the meeting in Ghaziabad.

Both these Lok Sabha constituencies will go to polls in the second phase of polling on April 26.

The BSP, in a statement here on Saturday, said the party, in the interest of ‘bahujan hitay bahujan sukhay’, has decided to go solo in 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

To give a message to the party cadre, Mayawati had chosen the birth anniversary of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar, April 14, to launch the party’s election campaign. On April 11 she addressed a public meeting in Nagpur, considered the ‘karmabhoomi’ of Dr Ambedkar.

To give momentum to the party campaign, the BSP chief has addressed a series of meetings in west UP where BSP is considered to have a committed vote bank.

On April 22, Mayawati will address public meetings in Gautam Buddha Nagar and Bulandshahr. She will be in Meerut and Hapur on April 23 to address public meetings in support of the party candidates.

The elections in the west UP constituencies are crucial for the BSP as the area has been a traditional stronghold of the party. BSP national coordinator Akash Anand, whom Mayawati has announced as her successor, launched the party’s campaign from Nagina to mobilise the party cadre for the Lok Sabha elections.

The BSP had won three seats in west UP in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections – Saharanpur, Bijnor and Nagina. Mayawati is working on Dalit-Muslim formula to retain the seats and challenge the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Samajwadi Party on the remaining seats.
