The metro service promises to make commuting smoother, faster, and more eco-friendly, with reduced dependence on diesel and petrol vehicles, contributing to a cleaner city environment.
A key feature of the metro is its special focus on women’s empowerment. Women security personnel will be deployed at every station, and women-only coaches will be equipped with CCTV surveillance. The metro stations and operations also involve a significant number of women staff, while additional facilities like reserved seating for pregnant and elderly women have been incorporated to make the service more inclusive.
Indore residents reacted with overwhelming enthusiasm, expressing how the metro will ease daily commutes and enhance the city’s status. Young students like Jyoti Sharma and Yamini Gaur mentioned how the metro has fulfilled their dreams, while residents like Kiran Dubey and Natasha Billore felt proud to see Indore joining the ranks of metro cities in India. Differently-abled youth Pooja Sharma also expressed her gratitude for the metro, describing it as one of the biggest gifts for people like her.
The metro project is part of Indore’s broader efforts toward sustainable urban development. Already recognized as the cleanest city in India, Indore now adds a green transport system to its list of achievements. The metro not only symbolizes the city’s progress but also aligns with Prime Minister Modi’s vision of “Nari Shakti” and “New India,” positioning Indore as a global smart city.
The ceremony began with floral tributes to Lokmata Devi Ahilyabai Holkar, and the atmosphere was charged with nationalistic fervor.
