Punjab Police Arrests 6 Members of Kaushal Chaudhary Gang
Punjab Police’s Counter Intelligence unit in Amritsar arrested six members of the Kaushal Chaudhary Gang, effectively averting a potential target killing. Among the arrested are two notorious shooters, Puneet Lakhanpal and Narinder Kumar alias Lalli, involved in the high-profile murders of Kabaddi player Sandeep Singh Nangal Ambian and Sukhmeet Singh alias Deputy, said Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav on Monday.
The other arrested members include Harpreet Singh alias Happal, Gurbhinder Singh, Sandeep Singh, and Maninderjit Singh alias Shinda. Six foreign-made .30 bore pistols along with 40 rounds of ammunition were recovered from the suspects, marking a significant seizure in the ongoing crackdown against organized crime.
DGP Yadav revealed that the gang was also involved in a daring attack on Highway King Hotel in Rajasthan in September 2024, where they fired indiscriminately to demand Rs five crore in extortion. The arrested individuals have long criminal records and had been evading arrest for the past three years.
Preliminary investigations suggest the gang operates as part of a larger criminal network led by Kaushal Chaudhary, with activities spanning Haryana, Rajasthan, and Punjab. The gang members were executing crimes under the instructions of foreign-based handlers, highlighting the transnational dimensions of their network.
Acting on credible intelligence, the Counter Intelligence team learned of plans orchestrated by the gang's foreign handlers, including individuals like Amarjit Singh alias Amar, Jagjit Singh alias Gandhi, and Balwinder Singh alias Doni. Local operatives were reportedly preparing for a target killing in Punjab.
Police intercepted the suspects near Haveli Restaurant in Jandiala, Amritsar, setting up a checkpoint that led to their swift arrest and the recovery of weapons.
