Matriculation and intermediate examinations conducted by Jharkhand Academic Council are likely to get postponed this year. The exams which are scheduled to begin from February 11 may get delayed as admit cards for the same have not been issued yet.
The tenures of JAC Chairman Dr Anil Mahto and Vice Chairman Dr Vinod Singh came to end on January 18. The government has not appointed a new chairman and this delay could now affect the exams. Initially, exams for class 8 were scheduled to commence from January 28 and for class 9 from January 29-30, but they too were also postponed.
A total of 7.83 lakh students – 4.33 lakh for matric and 3.50 lakh students for intermediate are supposed to appear for the exams. As many as 2100 centres have been set up by the board across the State for successfully conducting the examinations.
As per the information received, the name of the new chairman may get decided by February 5 while an official notification regarding this will be issued on the night of February 4. To ensure there are no disruptions in the exam preparation, the selected officers will take charge of their post on February 5 and the process of signing the admit cards will also begin on the same day. The admit cards will then be uploaded online by February 6.
It is being reported that even if the admit cards are uploaded on the above mentioned date they will only get delivered to the candidates before February 10, leaving no extra time for any corrections if required. Hence, holding the exam on the scheduled date of February 11 may not be possible.
If the exams are postponed, there is also a possibility that a large number of students may not appear for them. JAC has already given instructions to print and supply the question papers. They will reach the districts before the scheduled date of the exam with the pre-decided date mentioned on it. If the date of the exam is rescheduled and the same question paper is used, questions may be raised in such a situation.
If the exams are delayed, the future of numerous students will be uncertain, as those who wish to pursue higher education in reputed institutes may face difficulties during the admission procedure.
