3 killed, 800 evacuated in rain-related incidents across Thane district; lightning strike injures 2

Monsoon-related incidents have claimed 3 lives and forced the evacuation of nearly 800 people across Maharashtra’s Thane district over the past week, officials said. A lightning strike in Murbad also injured 2 people, including a teenage girl.
According to the district administration, the fatalities were reported from Thane city, Ambernath and Mira Bhayander. Eleven people have sustained injuries in various rain-related accidents during the monsoon season so far.
The lightning strike occurred in Murbad taluka on Wednesday, leaving two people injured. Both victims were rushed to Tokawde Primary Health Centre and are reported to be out of danger.

In separate incidents, two young boys drowned in a river and a nullah in Bhiwandi on July 5 and July 6. Rescue teams are continuing search operations, while authorities are also working to identify the body of an unidentified man recovered from the swollen Potgaon river in Murbad.
Heavy rainfall has caused widespread disruption across the district, with emergency teams evacuating 797 people from 229 families to safer locations. Several areas reported infrastructure damage, including the collapse of 136 houses, either partially or completely.
The rains also damaged five huts, two poultry farms, a community hall and an Anganwadi centre, officials said.
Authorities intervened in Kalwa after hill torrents threatened the Adarsh Chawl locality. An inspection found that stormwater channels and nullahs had been blocked by debris, causing rainwater to overflow into residential areas.
The Thane Municipal Corporation cleared the clogged drainage channels to restore water flow and prevent further damage. Officials said no structural collapse or loss of life was reported in the Kalwa incident.
