30-year-old man stabbed to death saving woman from molestation in Delhi
A 30-year-old man was stabbed to death while allegedly trying to protect a woman from a group of youths who attempted to molest her inside a park in Delhi’s Bharat Nagar on Wednesday afternoon.
The woman sustained serious stab injuries and has been referred to a higher medical centre after doctors suspected a possible lung injury.
Police have apprehended a juvenile in connection with the case.
Police received a PCR call regarding a stabbing at Khimman Singh Park in Ashok Vihar at around 3.33 pm. A police team rushed to the spot and found Devki (26), wife of Pawan and a resident of Jahangirpuri, along with Sunil (30), a native of Mainpuri in Uttar Pradesh’s Etah district, lying injured.
According to Devki’s statement, four to five unidentified youths approached them while they were sitting in the park. Police sources said the group allegedly began molesting the woman. When Sunil objected, an altercation broke out, following which one of the assailants allegedly attacked both of them with a knife before the group fled the spot.
The injured were rushed to Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital, where doctors declared Sunil brought dead. Devki, who sustained serious injuries, was later referred to a higher medical centre for advanced treatment.
A senior doctor at the hospital said both victims had suffered multiple stab wounds. Sunil sustained four stab injuries: one on the face, two on the chest and one near the waist. Devki suffered two stab wounds: one on the upper back and another on the lower back. “The woman has been referred to a higher centre because the stab wounds might have caused a lung injury,” the doctor said.
However, police said the exact sequence of events and the motive behind the attack are still being verified as part of the investigation.
A forensic team examined the crime scene and collected evidence. Investigators are scanning CCTV footage from the surrounding area to identify the remaining accused and reconstruct the sequence of events.
Meanwhile, Mandeep, a security guard at the park, said he rushed to the spot after hearing the woman’s cries for help. “I was on my round when I heard a woman shouting for help. I immediately reached the spot and saw two people lying on the ground. The woman was conscious, but the man was unconscious. I arranged an e-rickshaw and rushed them to a nearby hospital. I also informed the police,” he said.
Police have registered FIR under Section 103(1) (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Bharat Nagar police station. One juvenile has been apprehended, while the remaining accused are absconding. Multiple police teams have been constituted to identify and arrest them. Further investigation is underway.
