5 Family members killed as SUV crashes into truck in Madhya Pradesh
5 members of a family were killed and another person was seriously injured after a speeding SUV collided with a truck in Madhya Pradesh’s Maihar district in the early hours today, police said.
The accident took place around 1 am near Rigra village on National Highway-30 under the Dehat police station area when the victims were returning to Maihar after attending a birthday celebration.
According to police, the SUV rammed into a moving truck from behind. The impact of the collision was so severe that the vehicle was completely damaged, trapping all six occupants inside.
Five people died at the spot, while one passenger sustained serious injuries. The injured person was initially taken to Amarpatan Civil Hospital for treatment but was later referred to Satna District Hospital after his condition deteriorated.
The deceased have been identified as Ankur Patel (40), Mradul Patel (32), Vijay Patel (30), Harishankar Patel (25) and Shiva Patel (23), police said.
The victims were reportedly relatives of local Congress leader Manish Patel, according to sources.
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the accident. Further details regarding the cause of the crash are awaited.
