CJP to meet Govt to break protest deadlock
A delegation of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) will meet with government ministers on Friday, sources said. The meeting will take place at 12.30 pm, but its venue has not been disclosed. This comes after intense backroom negotiations to end the deadlock over the NEET paper leak, the sources said.
Underlining that the Government has sent four proposals to the protesting students at Jantar Mantar in Delhi for discussions since Wednesday, Union Minister of State (MoS) Jitendra Singh reiterated that the Government is ready for discussions, in an attempt at outreach to the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP).
"I wish to share that in the last 24 hours as many as four offers were made to the student representatives for a dialogue. It is my humble appeal to the students on agitation that the Government is ready for talks whenever you want, at whichever hour of the day and for as much length of time that you wish to,” Singh said.
Thursday's outreach to the protesting students at Jantar Mantar came after overnight clashes between protesters and police.
Despite barricades, heightened security and suspending metro operations across 16 stations around Jantar Mantar, protesters have been gathered at protest site.
"We are ready to discuss the issue on which the agitation has happened, and all the other related issues as well. Discussions can take place either at JP Nadda's office or residence. We do not stand on prestige. Union Health Minister JP Nadda and I will be present for discussions. Slowly, by way of discussion, we will progress towards a solution. This is a part of the series of continuous steps taken by the Government for the welfare of the students. Humbly, I appeal to you all to come and have discussions," Singh added.
The CJP, however, has insisted on talks either at the Jantar Mantar or at a neutral venue, rejecting the proposal talks at JP Nadda's residence or office.
Union minister Nadda reiterated Singh's remarks, saying the Government is ready for further talks with the protesting youth, which can be held either at his office or residence.
"Please come forward so that we find a way out of this situation in the larger interest of the students' community, youth community and the nation at large. As you would also appreciate, this morning itself, Prime Minister Narendra Modi candidly spelt out that the interest of the students is the foremost for this Government. The Government will go to any extent to safeguard the welfare of the students. Not only that, but the PM also took a very important decision to set up fast-track courts to deal with the cases related to those responsible for the recent paper leaks so that the final verdicts come early and decisively. Once again, I very humbly, on behalf of the Government, invite you to come forward," he said.
