Delhi CM welcomes JPC during one nation, one election study visit

Delhi CM Rekha Gupta on Wednesday welcomed members of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on One Nation, One Election, led by BJP MP P. P. Chaudhary, during their study visit to the national capital.
The committee visited the Delhi Secretariat as part of its nationwide consultations with states and stakeholders on the proposed framework for simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.
The JPC has been holding discussions across the country to gather feedback on the Constitution (129th Amendment) Bill, 2024 and the Union Territories Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2024, which seek to enable simultaneous elections.
During the visit, the panel interacted with Delhi government representatives as part of its effort to understand the administrative and governance implications of the proposal.
The committee, chaired by P. P. Chaudhary, has been consulting governments, legal experts and civil society representatives before finalising its recommendations.
The Centre has said that the "One Nation, One Election" proposal aims to reduce election expenditure and minimise disruptions caused by frequent polls, while critics have raised concerns over its impact on India's federal structure.
