Delhi HC seeks response from Parvesh Verma, police over alleged slapping incident

The Delhi High Court on Thursday sought responses from Deputy Chief Minister Parvesh Verma and the city police on a petition seeking an independent probe into an alleged slapping incident involving the BJP leader.
The incident reportedly occurred on September 27 during a road inspection in Tilak Nagar. The man allegedly slapped by Verma identified himself as Sahib Singh and claimed to be an associate of former Tilak Nagar AAP MLA Jarnail Singh.
Sahib Singh also said he manages the AAP leader's social media accounts.
According to PTI, Justice Sachin Datta issued notices to Verma and the Delhi Police, asking them to file their replies along with a status report. The respondents, however, questioned the maintainability of the petition.
Petitioner seeks protection
Besides an independent investigation, Singh has sought police protection for himself and his family members.
"The minister lost his cool after seeing me openly challenging his claims of the road work, and he kicked and slapped a youth in Tilak Nagar," Singh said at a press conference earlier.
He also said he had filed a defamation case against Verma and asked the minister to respond within seven days and apologise over the alleged incident.
The high court has listed the matter for further hearing on November 17. (with inputs from PTI)
