Five injured after AC compressor exploded

Five people, including three employees of a pizza parlour, sustained minor injuries after an air-conditioner compressor exploded in northeast Delhi’s Yamuna Vihar. The incident took place on Monday at a Pizza Hut outlet, where a fire broke out following the compressor blast, police said in a statement. Five people, including three employees of the outlet, suffered injuries in the incident, they said.

However, Pizza Hut India denied that the fire took place inside the outlet.

“We would like to clarify that Monday’s unfortunate fire did not occur inside the Pizza Hut Yamuna Vihar restaurant. It broke out in the main building compound outside the outlet and authorities are investigating the root cause,” it said in a statement.

“None of our customers were harmed. Our store team members, who bravely helped control the fire, sustained injuries but are now recovering well after timely treatment. The team on the ground is extending full cooperation to the authorities in their investigation,” the statement added.

According to the Delhi Fire Services (DFS), a call regarding the blast was received at 8:55 pm on Monday from a building in C-Block that comprises a basement, a ground floor and two upper floors. Three fire tenders were rushed to the spot and the blaze was doused soon after.

All the injured were taken to the Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital, where they were treated and later discharged, an official said.

A DFS official confirmed that the fire was fully extinguished by their team. A forensic team examined the site and collected evidence to ascertain the cause of the blast.
