From Lok Kalyan Marg to Red Fort, PM Modi’s morning with animals

Peacocks and cows of a miniature breed frequently appear in the PM’s social media posts
Despite a hectic schedule, Prime Minister Narendra Modi makes time to care for animals and birds at his official residence, Lok Kalyan Marg. It is his daily morning routine, and he followed it before addressing the nation on the 80th Independence Day from the ramparts of the Red Fort.
Given the minute-to-minute national ceremony with the PM arriving at the historic venue shortly after 7.00 am, PM Modi fed cows and peacocks just before leaving for the Red Fort on Sunday. A video in this regard has now gone viral. “Feeding my friends every morning is a daily routine. Yesterday morning, they somehow realised I’m leaving early, so they came to meet me as I was leaving for the Red Fort. Special, as always,” he wrote in an Instagram post on Sunday.
Peacocks and cows of a miniature breed frequently appear in the PM’s social media posts, often seen accompanying him during his early morning walks on the lawns of his residence. They include cows of the Punganur breed, a rare and ancient dwarf cattle variety native to Andhra Pradesh.
His affection for animals also resonates in platforms like the monthly Mann Ki Baat radio programme, in which encourages citizens to adopt indigenous dog breeds like Mudhol Hounds as part of the vocal-for-local initiative.
PM Modi’s love for animals is not something new. Even before assuming office as PM, he had a deep bond with animals. Modi Archive ‘X handle’ carries old photos of PM Modi with animals, captioning them, “He loves animals, and they love him right back!”
The pictures show him sitting with a tiger, feeding an animal, and even holding a small animal in his lap, highlighting how his love for animals has been a long-standing passion.
Over the past few years, PM Modi has also visited some animal sanctuaries and spent some time in nature, taking time out from his busy itinerary. In 2023, the Prime Minister visited the Bandipur and Mudumalai Tiger Reserves in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
He also visited the Theppakadu Elephant Camp in Mudumalai Tiger Reserve, where he interacted with mahouts and kavadis and also fed the elephants. Modi also interacted with elephant keepers featured in the Oscar-winning documentary, The Elephant Whisperers.
In a series of social media posts, the PM had then said: “Spent the morning at the scenic Bandipur Tiger Reserve and got a glimpse of India’s wildlife, natural beauty and diversity.”
“Some more glimpses from the Bandipur Tiger Reserve.”
“With the majestic elephants at the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve.”
“What a delight to meet the wonderful Bomman and Belli, along with Bommi and Raghu.”
