InspeCity Space Laboratories appoints Rajeev Gambhir as executive vice president
InspeCity Space Laboratories, an Indian space technology company headquartered in Thane in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, has appointed Rajeev Gambhir as its Executive Vice President, marking a significant step in the company’s next phase of growth as India’s commercial space sector expands beyond launch capabilities to advanced in-orbit technologies.
The company is developing a vertically integrated technology stack that includes Rendezvous and Proximity Operations (RPO), green satellite propulsion and robotic systems aimed at extending satellite life, reducing replacement costs and mitigating orbital debris. These technologies are expected to play a key role in enabling sustainable commercial and strategic space operations.
Over the past few years, InspeCity has strengthened its capabilities in in-space operations, securing multiple contracts under the Government of India’s iDEX programme while expanding its engineering expertise and infrastructure.
As part of its growth plans, the company intends to nearly double its multidisciplinary workforce from around 70 to approximately 150 engineers and scientists by the end of the current financial year.
Gambhir brings over four decades of experience across the space, satellite, telecommunications and media sectors. His expertise includes strategic partnerships, policy, standards and ecosystem development, with extensive engagement across government, industry, academia and international organisations.
Announcing the appointment, Dr. Arindrajit Chowdhury, Chief Executive Officer of InspeCity, said the company is strengthening its strategic leadership to build on the technology foundation created over the past few years. He added that Gambhir’s experience in commercial leadership and institutional engagement would support the company’s long-term growth ambitions.
As Executive Vice President, Gambhir will lead institutional engagement, strategic partnerships, corporate positioning and international collaborations. He will work closely with the leadership team to strengthen relationships with government agencies, industry partners, research institutions and the global space ecosystem.
Commenting on his appointment, Gambhir said the space industry is entering a new phase where sustainable in-orbit operations will drive long-term value. He expressed confidence in InspeCity’s technology and vision, stating that he looks forward to helping the company build enduring commercial and strategic outcomes while contributing to the future of the global space economy.
