Lashkar Terrorist Zakir Ganai killed in Shopian encounter after 5-Day security operation

A suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist, identified as Zakir Ganai, was killed in an encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district after a prolonged operation that lasted nearly five days. The operation was launched after security agencies received inputs about the presence of terrorists in the Saidpora area of South Kashmir.
Security forces recovered the terrorist’s body along with arms and ammunition following the encounter. The joint operation was carried out by the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Rashtriya Rifles and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
According to officials, the security forces had been tracking the movement of suspected terrorists after their presence was spotted through surveillance inputs. A cordon-and-search operation was launched in the area, with forces sealing possible escape routes to prevent the militants from fleeing.
The encounter broke out as forces intensified the search operation in the dense orchard area of Saidpora. Security personnel engaged the hiding terrorists after coming under fire, following which one terrorist was neutralised.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police confirmed the success of the operation, stating that one Lashkar terrorist was eliminated in a joint operation involving the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Shopian, Rashtriya Rifles and CRPF.
The operation comes amid continued efforts by security forces to dismantle terror networks operating in Jammu and Kashmir. Intelligence-based operations have been intensified across the Valley to track and neutralise militants involved in anti-national activities.
