Massive fire guts Vijay Sales showroom in Uttam Nagar

A massive fire ripped through a multi-storey Vijay Sales electronics showroom in Delhi’s Uttam Nagar early Wednesday, destroying stock worth several lakhs. No injuries or fatalities were reported, Delhi Fire Service (DFS) officials said.
The blaze broke out near Metro Pillar 663 around 4:15 am. Visuals from the spot showed towering flames and thick black smoke billowing into the sky as the fire rapidly spread through the building, which was visible from a considerable distance.
According to Rajendra Atwal, DFS Public Relations Officer, nine fire tenders were initially rushed to the scene. As the blaze intensified, additional fire engines were deployed to contain it.
The showroom had a basement, a ground floor and three upper floors. It had also expanded into the third and fourth floors of an adjacent building above a Bata showroom, with access through the Vijay Sales premises.
Preliminary investigations suggest the fire started on the third floor and rapidly spread through the structure. The flames also gutted the third and fourth floors of the adjoining building occupied by the showroom. Firefighters battled it for nearly two hours and extinguished it by about 6:30 am. Cooling operations and searches for any remaining hotspots continued until noon.
A DFS official said several neighbouring commercial establishments were under threat as the fire intensified, but firefighters’ timely intervention prevented it from spreading to adjacent buildings. The blaze destroyed the stock of electronics, home appliances, furniture and other materials.
Police, PCR teams and ambulances also reached the spot soon after the fire was reported. A case has been registered, an investigation has begun, and the exact cause remains unknown. Crime team personnel and experts from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) inspected the scene and are collecting evidence to ascertain the origin. Officials said a detailed forensic examination will determine whether it was caused by an electrical fault or any other factor.
