Shreyas Iyer named India T20I Captain, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi earns Maiden Call-Up

India have announced their squad for the upcoming T20I tours of Ireland and England, with Shreyas Iyer being appointed captain in a significant leadership change ahead of a busy international season.
The selectors have also handed a maiden call-up to teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who impressed with his performances during IPL 2026. His inclusion is seen as a reward for a breakthrough season that established him as one of the country's most promising young talents.
The squad features a blend of experienced players and emerging stars. Regular performers Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, Axar Patel, Mohammed Siraj and Arshdeep Singh have retained their places, while IPL standouts Nitish Reddy, Prince Yadav and Harshit Rana have also been included.
One of the most notable decisions in the squad announcement is the omission of Suryakumar Yadav. The experienced batter has not only lost the captaincy but has also been left out of the squad entirely, making it one of the biggest talking points of the selection meeting.
The announcement was made following the Men's Selection Committee meeting at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai, where squads were also finalised for the Asian Games in Japan and the India A tour of Sri Lanka.
With a new captain at the helm and several young faces in the squad, the upcoming series against Ireland and England will offer India an opportunity to test its next generation of T20 talent while building towards future global tournaments.
