Thane court sentences man to life for killing cousin
A court in Maharashtra’s Thane district has sentenced a 40-year-old man to life imprisonment after convicting him of kidnapping and killing his cousin over money disputes more than 11 years ago.
In his order of August 5, a copy of which was made available on Saturday, Additional Sessions Judge R V Tamhanekar from Kalyan also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the convict, Husen Harun Shaikh, a resident of the Ulhasnagar area.
According to the prosecution, the victim, Ramjan Shahavali Shaikh, went missing on July 25, 2015, after the accused had demanded money from him for alcohol and ganja and threatened him.
The victim’s decomposed body was later recovered on August 1, 2015, from a drainage channel following threatening phone calls made by the accused to his family.
Additional Public Prosecutor Kadambini M Khandagale examined as many as ten prosecution witnesses.
The court found Husen guilty under Sections 302 (murder), 364 (kidnapping to murder), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence), and 507 (criminal intimidation by anonymous communication) of the Indian Penal Code.
The court awarded life imprisonment to Husen for murder, 10 years rigorous imprisonment for kidnapping, 5 years for destroying evidence, and 1 year for criminal intimidation, with all sentences to run concurrently.
