Thursday, 21 March 2024 | PNS | Ranchi

Chief Electoral Officer, Jharkhand, K Ravi Kumar told all the District Election Officers of the state that under the provisions of Section 135 (B) of the Representation of the People Act 1951, for the employees of non-government/private/commercial organizations to exercise their franchise, there is a provision for paid leave for the day. Voter awareness forums are to be set up under the SVEEP program in all institutions keeping in mind such voters, who are aware of the updated status of their voter registration through meetings with the personnel of their institutions or organizing other awareness activities.

Along with Additional Chief Electoral Officer Sandeep Singh and Additional Chief Electoral Officer Neha Arora, the CEO held a meeting with the District Election Officers of the state through video conferencing to review the preparations for the Lok Sabha Elections 2024, here on Wednesday.

While discussing the voter population ratio of the last Lok Sabha elections, 2019, while giving the example of voting data of 09 (nine) urban assembly constituencies of the state, he said that the percentage of voting at 3060 polling stations of these urban assembly constituencies is in line with the national average of voter turnout. Therefore, all the District Election Officers, through Voter Awareness Forum (VAF) in all the institutions under their area, hold meetings with the nodal officers of Voter Awareness Forum of all non-government/commercial institutions and encourage them to exercise their franchise. Get inspired. It has to be completed at any cost by March 30, 2024. He said that every third day all the District Election Officers will report regarding the activities of Voter Awareness Forums in their area.

It is known that the heads of non-government/private and commercial institutions located in cities are the heads of the Voter Awareness Forum of their institutions, which is to have a five-member executive. Sports clubs and entertainment clubs already formed for the employees of the institute can also be given the form of Voter Awareness Forum. Voter Awareness Forum will provide necessary support to all the members of its institutions by getting information about their current status as voters for their convenience or will contact the concerned BLO to resolve the issue and provide necessary resources. Apart from this, this forum will also motivate its members to vote along with their family members. After the voting day, this forum will take a collective selfie of the members exercising their franchise and post it on the social media handle of their organization and tag the concerned District Election Officer so that the significance of Section 135 (B) of the Representation of the People Act can be proved. .

After the voting day, the Voter Awareness Forum will receive feedback from its members regarding the facilities available at the polling station and any problems or inconveniences faced in voting and inform the concerned officials for their resolution. If any member of that institution has not exercised his right to vote or has been indifferent towards voting, then the head of the forum will get information about it and provide feedback to the concerned officer.

For a first time voter or for inclusion of name in the electoral roll due to transfer from one constituency to another, an application can be made in Form 6 prescribed by the Election Commission of India to the Electoral Registration Officer of the concerned constituency. All Voter Awareness Forums will be able to submit Form 6 for their members by 15.04.2024 for the fourth phase of elections (10-Singhbhum, 11-Khunti, 12-Lohardaga and 13 Palamu Parliamentary Constituencies).
